Cloud & Systems Engineer

Hybrid remote in Darmstadt Full-time · Permanent

Daisytuner is building the software layer for the next generation of computing. We make complex software run efficiently on any processor—from CPUs and GPUs to novel accelerators—using a self-learning compiler and cloud-scale optimization infrastructure.

As a Cloud & Systems Engineer, you will not just maintain existing systems — you will shape the distributed infrastructure and developer platform that powers our self-learning compiler. You will work at the intersection of cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, backend services, and developer-facing applications, turning state-of-the-art compiler research into robust, scalable, production-grade systems.

This is not a traditional web role. The frontend is part of the control plane for a heterogeneous compute platform.

What you will be doing

  • Evolve and harden our CI runner fleet (bare-metal and hybrid cloud) and improve robustness and scalability of our runner and backend services
  • Contribute to scheduling and orchestration logic across heterogeneous hardware
  • Architect and scale backend services connecting users to our self-learning compiler infrastructure
  • Design robust REST APIs between dashboard, compiler services, and distributed runners
  • Integrate performance-critical native components into cloud services
  • Design and build the backend and frontend of our developer dashboard, enabling users to launch workloads, analyze performance, and retrieve optimization insights
  • Support infrastructure for ML workflows, including efficient vector search and RAG-style retrieval
  • Drive architectural improvements across hybrid cloud and edge environments and improve reliability, observability, and deployment workflows
  • Work closely with compiler engineers to expose advanced functionality via cloud services and translate research prototypes into scalable production systems

What you are bringing

  • Background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (degree or equivalent experience)
  • Strong experience designing and operating distributed or cloud-native systems
  • Backend development experience (TypeScript/Node.js preferred)
  • Experience integrating native libraries or performance-critical components (C/C++) into backend services
  • Experience with relational and/or non-relational databases, including high-performance data access patterns
  • Experience designing robust REST APIs and service boundaries
  • Understanding of hybrid cloud architectures and distributed compute systems
  • Experience building CI systems or distributed job runners(plus)
  • Experience with ML infrastructure or vector databases(plus)
  • Experience building developer-facing platforms (React or similar frameworks)(plus)

Who you are

  • You think in systems, not just features
  • You are comfortable operating across frontend, backend, and infrastructure layers
  • You question previous design decisions and propose pragmatic improvements
  • You are confident taking ownership in a small, fast-moving team
  • You can communicate effectively with both compiler researchers and infrastructure engineers
  • You are motivated by building robust, long-lasting technical foundations

What we offer

  • A small, highly technical team with direct impact on core technology
  • Competitive compensation and potential equity participation
  • The opportunity to work at the intersection of compilers, distributed systems, and cloud infrastructure
  • Real ownership over architectural decisions that underpin production systems
We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. We value diversity and believe that different perspectives make us stronger. We do not discriminate based on gender, nationality, ethnic origin, religion, disability, age, sexual orientation, or identity.
